CEO's Message

Dear Friends and Partners,

Welcome to the Organisation of Green Future Afghanistan. Our mission is clear: to lead Afghanistan towards sustainable development. We are committed to pioneering innovative solutions that address the environmental challenges facing our nation, and to empower individuals and communities to embrace sustainable practices.

The environmental conundrum in Afghanistan is a complex issue exacerbated by decades of war and conflict. The impact of warfare on the environment begins long before conflicts start, with the buildup and maintenance of military forces consuming vast amounts of resources such as energy, water, and metals. This not only depletes natural resources but also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and other forms of pollution.

During conflicts, the environmental impact escalates. High-intensity conflicts require massive amounts of fuel, leading to increased emissions and contributing to climate change effects. The use of explosive ordnance and the destruction of infrastructure further worsen the situation, causing air and soil pollution. Deliberate attacks on industrial facilities can lead to severe pollution incidents, adding to the environmental devastation.

The use of weapons and military equipment during conflicts leaves lasting environmental legacies. Soils and water sources become contaminated with metals and toxic materials, posing serious health risks to local populations. The disruption caused by conflict can also facilitate wildlife crime and harm conservation efforts, further destabilizing fragile ecosystems.

In Afghanistan, the impact of war on the environment is stark. Deforestation, soil erosion, and pollution from burning and other activities have been widespread. The destruction of infrastructure and displacement of populations have further contributed to environmental degradation. The long-term effects of these impacts on the health of Afghan civilians and the environment are significant and require ongoing attention and remediation efforts.

Despite these challenges, Afghanistan has struggled to address its environmental issues. Limited environmental studies and the absence of dedicated organizations or agencies focusing on environmental issues have hindered progress. The country's environmental law, passed after seven years of interim government, has done little to deter ecoterrorism and those who endanger the ecosystem. Afghanistan must prioritize environmental conservation and sustainable development to mitigate the impacts of war and ensure a healthier future for its people and the environment.

Through our research, education, and outreach programs, we are working to build a greener, more sustainable Afghanistan. We are developing practical, scalable solutions that will not only protect our environment, but also improve the lives of all Afghans, particularly those most vulnerable to environmental degradation. I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and I invite you to join us on this journey towards a brighter, greener future for Afghanistan.

Together, we can make a difference.

Warm regards,

Qadriya Hashimi,

Organisation of Green Future Afghanistan
